Look Like a Million Bucks (Without Trying Too Hard)

Simple prep tips for portraits that feel like you—just on your best day.

Let’s get one thing clear: you don’t need to reinvent yourself to look great in a portrait. You don’t need a full glam squad, a perfect outfit, or a crash diet the week before. You don’t need to “pose like a model” or channel your inner celebrity.

You just need a little intention—and someone behind the camera who knows how to bring out the real you. That’s my job. But here are a few things you can do ahead of time to make sure you show up feeling your best and most confident.

1- Pick Clothes That Feel Good on You

This is number one for a reason. If you’re tugging at your shirt, fidgeting with buttons, or adjusting straps every few minutes, it’s going to show. The best clothes for photos are the ones that fit well, move easily, and make you feel like yourself.

Stick with solid colors or simple textures. Earth tones, muted jewel tones, and soft neutrals always photograph well. Avoid loud patterns, logos, or writing unless they mean something personal to you.

Bring a few options—we’ll try different looks.

2- Think “Gently Polished,” Not Overdone

This goes for makeup, hair, and accessories. I’m not trying to shoot the red carpet. I want to capture you—on a really good day.

If you wear makeup, apply it as you normally would, just a touch more refined. Even minimal coverage can go a long way on camera. Same with hair—come with it how you like it. Neat, clean, and styled the way you feel most confident.

Hats, scarves, jewelry, glasses—bring them if they feel like you. We might use them. Or not. No pressure.

3- Rest, Hydrate, and Breathe

Sounds simple, but it makes a difference. The night before your shoot, get some rest. Drink some water. Take a moment to slow down the day of the session. You’ll look better and feel calmer—and it will absolutely show in your photos.

4- Trust the Process

You don’t have to come in knowing how to pose. You don’t need to practice in the mirror or memorize Pinterest ideas. I’ll help guide you. We’ll move around, try different things, and most importantly—have a little fun with it.

The truth is, the most flattering photos are the ones where you feel relaxed and present. That’s where the magic happens.

5- Show Up As You

There’s no “right” way to look. No need to lose 10 pounds, wait until your hair grows out, or wait for the perfect season. This is about marking this moment in your life—your connection, your family, your story. That’s always worth photographing.

You already have what it takes to look like a million bucks. I’m just here to help you see it.
