Provincetown: The Tip of the Cape, and the Start of Something Beautiful

let’s get lost together

I was born on Cape Cod. I learned photography on Cape Cod. And over the course of my life, I’ve wandered every backroad and beach trail the Cape has to offer. But if there’s one place that keeps pulling me back—again and again—it’s Provincetown.

Perched at the very tip of the Cape, Provincetown is more than a destination. It’s a mood. A moment. A feeling you carry with you long after you leave. It’s a town full of character and contrast, bursting with color, culture, and creativity. The light here has a softness I’ve rarely found elsewhere, and that’s saying something, given the miles I’ve clocked behind the lens.

Provincetown—known affectionately as P-town—is one of the oldest continuous art colonies in America. Long before it was a tourist favorite, it was a creative haven, drawing painters, poets, playwrights, and photographers like moths to a flame. Today, it’s still that magnetic, rebellious, radiant place. A town where anything goes, and everything glows. From the clapboard houses and windswept dunes to the harbor views and late-night drag shows, this town is alive. So full of life and love. And when you get that combination in surplus, you have the perfect recipe for remarkableness in photography.

In my opinion, Provincetown is one of the most photogenic small towns in America. There’s visual poetry on every corner: bikes with baskets of fresh-cut flowers, fishing boats bobbing in the morning light, couples holding hands beneath rainbow flags, and street performers turning the sidewalk into a stage. There’s joy here—unfiltered and unscripted—and as a photographer, it’s pure gold.

And that’s exactly why I come back every summer to lead a one-day iPhone photography workshop right here on the streets of Provincetown.

Teaching iPhone photography in Provincetown is unlike teaching anywhere else. The town becomes our classroom. We chase light through alleyways, explore shadow play on wharf buildings, and let spontaneous moments lead the way. There’s no artificial posing, no rigid curriculum—just real life unfolding, and us there to witness and capture it. My workshops here are built on exploration: of light, color, design, and story. We walk. We shoot. We share. And every time, we come away not just with better photos, but with deeper appreciation for seeing.

This year’s Provincetown workshop is on June 7, and if you’re someone who wants to elevate your mobile photography—whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned snapper—I’d love to have you join me. You don’t need a fancy setup. Just an iPhone and an open heart. We’ll spend the day discovering the soul of Provincetown through the lens, stopping often to reflect, refine, and reimagine what’s possible when you slow down and really see.

I often say the best camera is the one you have with you—and the best photos are the ones you feel. Provincetown gives you both. It teaches you how to see light differently. How to lean into color. How to notice the little stories happening all around you. And how to capture emotion—not just exposure. That’s what I try to share during our day together.

For me, photography has always been personal. It’s not just about pretty pictures—it’s about presence. And when I walk the streets of Provincetown, camera in hand, I feel more alive. More present. More myself.

If you’re ready for that kind of photographic experience—immersive, inspiring, and yes, a little bit magical—come walk with me on June 7. Let’s get lost in the details and found in the frame. Let’s tell stories with pixels. Let’s celebrate Provincetown, one tap at a time.

You can DM me for details, or reach out through my website. Space is limited, because I like to keep these workshops small and personal. Just a handful of curious souls, looking to see the world a little differently.

Provincetown has been a gift in my life. Maybe it’s time you let it be one in yours.
