As a teen, I cussed, without conscience, like a sailor. I still do.
Just can’t seem to help myself. It feels right. WTF.
My saintly mother was constantly, it seemed, reprimanding me, this inerrant high schooler, for my “foul” and “off-color” language.
Sorry, mom. No offense intended. Love you:)
Our lexicons were different. But our motivations were the same.
But I use to think to myself, “off-color”, what the hell does that mean?
Once I figured it out, the phrase, in my own way, personally, became my rallying cry and national anthem. Why not!
Being, every now and then, in language, dress, hairstyle, friendship choices, off-color seemed to be my freak flag, my rebel-without-a-cause, my point of differentiation, my marching to the beat of a different drum.
In the off-color of it all, I reveled in it. Better yet, rebelled in it.
I was off-color. I am off-color. I will always be off-color.
As a photographer of over 4-decades, almost, from the beginning, I liked the natural and organic color(s).
I want my photographs to look and feel like my eyes would see these same subjects and objects, in real life-pure, unprocessed, additive-free.
But, per my cantankerous and renegade personality, on rare occasions, when the mood and moon stuck and struck a chord with me, I wanted to be different, distinct, separate, usual, uncommon, off-color
Yesterday, for a lot of reasons, was such an opportunity for unconventional and unorthodoxy.
As soon as a drove over the Sagamore bridge, toward Union Street, I could feel, unquestionably, that sure-fire sense of unpredictability and outlandishness rise up in me.
To the off-beat, off-the-wall, off-color….in all of us, but especially me, here’s to the creative joy of putting square pegs in round holes.
Upon arrival on Cape Cod, the temperature was cold as hell.
And the light sucked too.
Shit.
So, it just felt right to go off-color, in tribute to, both James Dean and my mom, in me
All of these were shot, on my iPhone 13 Pro-Max, using the Filmic Pro #Firslight app (specifically the 4 infrared filters)
