When I see design in life, anywhere, everywhere, for example, in clothes, in fashion, in furnishing, in objects, in food-plating, in shoes, in bags, in hats and fedoras, in jewelry, in architecture, in hairstyles, in glasses, in photography composition…it just makes me happy on the inside. So happy.
Design isn’t just a passing fancy. It’s a total and immersive obsession with me, and millions of others.
I have many friends and acquaintances on the design spectrum, who are polar opposites from me.
It’s not like this group doesn’t have good taste. Most of them do. They just don’t have that natural, built-in, organic, design sensibility and sensitivity.
The kind that…you know when you see it!
When with these design-challenged companions, I might casually point out some design element, in life, and all I get, in return, is glassy stares and the look? What did you say?
Designers are designers.
And all of life’s design is within reach.
We speak a different language than most.
We live in a different world.
We buy different things.
We wear different clothes
We enjoy different color schemes
We notice different rituals, rhythms, and routines, in life.
We travel to different places
We use a different lexicon
We sit at very different belief altars
We photograph different subjects and themes.
We enjoy different movies and entertainment.
We plate our food differently than most
We love our shoes, boots, and sandals.
We spend to itch the urge to satisfy
We enjoy different secrets than most
We have affairs.
We laugh, we cry, with equal intensity and purpose
We love our family and friends
We enjoy different and unique kinds of romances and intimacies
We love art, anywhere we can recognize it and claim it.
We relish the company of other, like-minded, passionate artists and poets
We delight in our quiet times
We have an unending appetite for novelty
We have a disdain for the predictability of things and experiences
We wear our emotions on our sleeves
We write pretty well, but we think even better
We love lines, shapes, patterns, symmetry, color-combinations
We are honest, upright, moral, fair, kind-hearted
We love to love.
