Are you Serious?

That’s the question I often get when I tell people that I am a professional photographer who uses only an iPhone for my work. Some people think I am joking, some think I am crazy, and some think I am not a real photographer.

But I am serious. Very serious.

I have been a photographer for over 40 years, and I have used various cameras and equipment in my career. But nothing has given me more joy and satisfaction than using my iPhone for photography, both personally and commercially.

Why? Because the iPhone allows me to focus on what really matters: the art and craft of photography.
“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” – Dorothea Lange
Maybe this is because we are living in a day and age where a photographer is finally recognized, hired, and promoted for the work they create rather than the camera device they use.

The iPhone is not just a camera, it is a tool that helps me see the world in new and creative ways. It challenges me to be more observant, more curious, more expressive. It frees me from the technical limitations and distractions of traditional cameras, and lets me concentrate on the story, the emotion, the message.

“The best camera is the one that’s with you.” – Chase Jarvis

The iPhone is also the most convenient and accessible camera I have ever used. It is always with me, ready to capture any moment, any opportunity, any inspiration. It is lightweight, compact, versatile, and powerful. It can do things that other cameras can’t, such as shooting in low light, creating panoramas, applying filters, editing on the go, and sharing instantly.

“It’s not the camera but who’s behind the camera.” – Anonymous

But the iPhone is not a magic wand that makes anyone a great photographer. It is still up to me (and you) to use my (our) skills, knowledge, and creativity to make compelling images. The iPhone is just a tool, and like any tool, it is only as good as the person who uses it.

I don’t care what other people think about my choice of camera. I don’t care if they think I am not serious about photography. I know I am. And my clients know it too.

They hire me not because of what camera I use, but because of what I can do with it. They hire me because they like my style, my vision, and my work.

“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” – Ansel Adams

I make photographs with my iPhone. And I am proud of it.

Are you serious?

Yes, I am.
